House/Shanty shortcut question...

Hey'ya,

Have any forum members here:

A: Ever used a home-made or commercial pontoon, or shanty/barge base, and mounted a commercial storage shed (duck blind, outhouse, ect) onto it?

B: Or, used store bought fence sections, to wall-up (enclose) a shanty frame?

Hope this is a new topic. It is just a couple of ideas that crossed my feeble mind. And, I'm curious if it has been used by any-one yet. If you know of any others who have done either of the above... please share.

Thank you.

.

The obvious issues that come up, using land based elements in your houseboat, are that the fasteners will typically be zinc coated mild steel, which don't survive long in a marine environment, as well as the other materials also being types that don't tolerate their employment in such a role.

Can it be do? Sure. Will it last very long or be particularly safe? Probably not. If you're going to invest time, effort, money and materials on a project, it's usually wise and more economical to use the things that can tolerate the environment which it will be subjected to. The only occasions this doesn't apply is when you're attempting to prove a concept or other wise where life span isn't a big concern.

You can successfully build an airplane out of cardboard, saving considerable money. The question is, how many flights are you willing to attempt in your cardboard flying machine?
