Help choosing first boat to build After almost a year of thinking about it ive decided to build a wooden boat and would appreciate any suggestions on which plan to choose. What im looking for: 1/ Simple and easy to follow plans (im the type of person who if doesn't read the instructions on the can will end dead from starvation or food poisoning) 2/ Light enough to be carried 200 yards to the slipway. 3/ Suitable for sailing on river/estuary. Thanks

| Sounds like a canoe would be the best choice for carrying 200 yards. Do you have to carry the hull on your shoulders or can you use a small dolly that can be stored on board?

The Current in the river near me might be too strong for a canoe, i have noticed an unused dolly at work that with a bit of work would be perfect for a small boat, ideally i'd love to build a mini-cup but i'd like to have some experience building something smaller before attempting it.

What about a kayak from a kit. This is fun, can be carried easily, and performs really well in swift currents. Have a look at what is available from clc boats. http://www.clcboats.com/boats/chesapeake.php ![]()

river boating hi there ; sailboat need winds and room to move around [tack] / dory style craft can handle most waters [rowing or outboard] kayaks [ ones we werk with ] can handle whitewater , rivers, medium seas [25 knot winds 6 ft 2 meter breaking waves , 8-9 ft rolling seas 3 meter ] with no problem / our kayaks are stich and glue / easy to build for hull, deck and cockpit a bit harder /
