| LOL, I'm not quite sure what non pure metals are but it'll probably work. Folks are going to start weighing in about the pros and cons of stainless, oxygen etc. If water penetrates your epoxy condom and the metal used rusts and is big enough the rust will grow and perhaps split things apart. If all it does is corrode the fastener away and the epoxy holds, well what the hell, the epoxy is holding as you stated. There are lots of fans of epoxy and I'm not putting it down at all. I am quite experienced with wood however and I will point out a few things I am sure of. It is damn hard to keep water out of wood completely. The bigger the wooden member the more it will move in response to moisture. If the epoxy is penetrated sufficiently somehow to let moisture in and the wood moves it will let more water in. The bummer is, if the water gets in, the epoxy won't let it back out. You know what happens then. Some of the wooden runabout guys have had mixed results with "bulletproof" epoxy systems mixed with more traditional building methods. I'd have to know more about your situation to make a decision and even then my opinion is only that, an opinion. I'd love to see the pics of your project. You said you can't figure out how to upload them. This is what I just did. Hit "advanced post" hit "manage attachements" hit "brouse files from your computer" select a couple pictures then hit "upload" So let's see a few pics! ![]()

| LOL, No that's not my boat. Do you remember Gilligan's Island? That's the SS Minnow! My place on Fox Island is approximently 47.16.40, 122.38.96. Southern Puget Sound, Washington. My boat is below. ![]()

| The Gilligan Island boat must be fifty years old. It's a wonder that it floats. Your boat looks like a home built, but I can't be sure. Not that knowledgeable on boats. My boat will be a monocoque type hull. In other words, once the hull is completed, the frames could theoretically be removed (except for whatever other members they are supporting; like engines, etc.) Thanks in advance for any comments. ![]() |
