Desginers of wooden ships like pilot cutters etc?

hello!

I am curious to know if there are any designers who design new boats but in the style of the old sailing pilot cutters, fishing trawlers etc. An example is the Workign Sail in Cornwall U.K. ( http://www.workingsail.co.uk/ )

Are there designers who design such boats even now?
Are there other companies that are building such ships?

I wonder how much of these boats are designed new, and how much of of the work is making copies form older designs.

Cheers

Mohan

Jeppe Jul Nilsen in Norway has designed a few "Colin Archers",
that is boats that are very close the Colin Archers original lines for pilot boats and rescue boats.

There are some. There are also loads of proven original designs info, oftenly with a hull lines and offset tables published in books by authors as Roger C. Taylor, L. Francis Herreshoff, Howard I. Chapelle… Many old designs are avaible through the archives. Mystic Seaport for example.

Most designers worth their salt would love to do a new version of one of these beauties. Contact a NA or designer and bounce the idea off them. I'll bet they'll jump at the opportunity. I certainly would.
