Wife's cousin spent a couple years gathering Cypress out of the Rivers and swamps of western Louisiana. He sawed the wood up for Paneling in his house. Marvelous looking stuff. Maybe contact a Timber seller to see if some plywood mill might buy them.

Cypress moves a lot with environmental changes. It checks, is prone to splitting and can be temperamental to paint. If you use it for a boat, use it as small dimension stock and encapsulated, so it doesn't move around like my ex-wife at the rumor of my visiting.

| Sharpies used to have cypress bottoms. They also made pickle barrels with it. If they were power poles, they probably have nails and bolts in them. It is dangerous and also expensive to mill if you break blades. You could make a raft and go down the Mississippi

Cypress is usable, but I'd keep them fairly thin, unless you have a design that needs lots of movement to seal up the boat, like the file planked sharpies Gonzo mentioned. If the poles are milled into 2x stock, you can rip off the edge at a set thickness and get some quarter sawn stuff at the thickness you want. This would be good for strip planking or even molded work. Then of course there's a place for it in trim or as nailer stock.

If we were close I'd take some of it to make the Thin strips for the bottom and deck of my Jon. I like the looks of the stuff. If I had a Band saw good enough, I'd make the Jon out of Cypress Planks sawn to 3/8" by as wide as I could get them.
