Sorry, this is a true story not myth. I was living in the LA area when this happened. I have also seen the coverage live, and heard the tapes his wife released (he was in continuous two way communication with his wife who tape recorded it) you might even find it on YouTube somewhere. There is one thing in error, I believe he came down in Pasadena, in a back yard, not Long Beach.

Larry has since passed away from natural causes.

Of course, this kind of project does not take many years of your life and everything you have earned to build. So I would say this kind of adventure is far more achievable than building an ocean going yacht yourself.

Lawn chair Larry shot himself to death 11 years after his eventful flight.

Boat building is like drugs ..... pleasurable, addictive, destructive and will get you in a lot of trouble at some time or another .... but once your hooked there is usually one way out of it .... by force ... (i havent even started by boat yet !! cant think what ill do once i get my hands in it ...)

Good analogy, Vulkyn. If boat building is a drug, I'm afraid I had an overdose and died on my very first time trying it. Guess I should have started with less "drugs" the first time and built up a tolerance. I started with a huge pile of drugs and it killed me.
