chainplates

I need to find out how to fasten the chainplates on my wooden hull. Its an 8 meter gaff cutter, 1 inch planks, 6 inches between each sawn frame. What to use as backing, if wood, how thick should it be?What glue, epoxy or less strong glue for easier replacement?
The chainplates are 5mm thick by 4 cm wide.About 80 cm length.
Hopeful for any advice...
