Bubble gum, no kidding, works well for small puncture holes.

Yeah, I'd heard that. It's like that old one but a good one for fuel tanks - ordinary soap.
Rub it in and it seals and dries. Doesn't last all that long, but saves your fuel if you get a pinhole leak.

Soap is better for gas tanks than canoe skin. Different solvents, you know.

Yeah, be no point trying to repair a leak in a canoe with soap!! But at least the area around the hole would be clean
