Bottom Finishing

What is the common practice for finishing bottoms of "one off" wood boats (cold molded, stitch/glue...) that are trailered? I've seen some with something resembling bottom paint, and others that are all one color. Most seem to favor the polyurethanes, but I've painted 'glass boats with poly, and the bottoms get torn up on ill fitting trailers (seems most are). Maybe epoxy paint below the boot stripe?
