Bitumen Paint

Hi can any one please tell me how I can remove bitumen paint from a veneer sheath. What influence will it have on subsequent coatings? I intend coating the boat with an epoxy.
Thank you
Butch .H

Thanks Wynand but would the bitumen have afected the veneer as to jeopardise future coatings.

a hot air gun and steel scrapers will remove it, but there will remain in the wood grain plenty of tar, epoxy over this would not hold

Hi Landy. At one stage I think some canvas was used but I think this bitumen is recent last 10 or 15 years
