Wrong Prop?

I have a 17' Glasply with a 140 HP I/O & Alpha 1. I'm having trouble getting to a plane with the boat. The stern drive appears to be down all the way. When I bought the boat it had a new prop. The motor will sound good when starting, but as I pick up speed the motor rpm's will race and boat speed will decrease (sounds like the motor is going to blow) Am I cavitating? Could I have the wrong prop? I thought a 140HP would be plenty!

if the drive is all the way down sounds like a spun hub replace the prop or have a new hub put in it
