I have a 8.2 Volvo DP-SM, the gimbal bearing went bad.
it is a convex shaped outer race that I see no way to install.
I cut a slot in it to remove it or it would not have come out.
There are no circlips, it only goes in from the rear. It has 2 small notches in the housing that looks like you could slip it in and then turn it? Maybe?
    Any help, suggestions?

Seems like you cut the bearing in two and removed only the inner gimballed part. The outer ring comes out. It is press-fit. You need to either use a bearing puller or if the engine is out, hammer it out.
