suggestion OMC To Mercruiser

I have an old 78 OMC 800 stringer (dead) I don't want to replace it with another stringer since they have so many issues with the shifter cables (hydro, mechanical, electric, etc,)its just a pain since they are old units and mostly are discontinued, really I want to upgrade to a Bravo II or Bravo III , but I have that big hole and the intermediate transfer case , how can I make a Mercruiser Bravo work with my 350 V8 5.7 motor ? Please Help.

Ok guys thanks for your input, lol anyway, I figured out I need to patch the hole and template new hole for the bravo II and maybe make some modifications to run the shaft straight to the lower unit , but now I NEED SOME INPUT ON WHAT RATIO SHOULD I GET I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT RATIOS ARE FOR all I hear its lower units had 1.5 1.93 1.8 2.0 2.21 and so on I don't get it.
