Prop change for improving hull performance My boat is almost 19', setup is a Ford 6 inline engine with 170hp with a Volvo 280 sterndrive. I run a 15x15 High Speed Propeller, boat reaches 4350rpm (engine max is 4500) at WOT, thing is this prop is a bit corroded and cavitates, and finally last weeked the hub went off. Now I want a new prop, how will a Michigan or Super High Speed prop (long hub) affect boat performance, hull and bow altittude? Or Should I just get a new High Speed prop and expect much better performance? I also noticed my rub rail gets VERY close to the water when doing some turns at 22mph, is there a chance some prop will affect hull attitude so that the boat turns better? or could it be that my prop was so cripped that it lost so much power? thanks in advance

Is there anyone you know that has a volvo leg that you can beg borrow or steal props from to try? IIRC most volvo props are 14" in diameterfor a 270 leg. Just looked some ar 15" as well. Do you know what the original prop was, because that is likely what you want? Look here. http://www.marinepartsexpress.com/propellers.shtml#SP2 .

Mtnrat, thanks for the response. I've already bought a 16x15 prop, it's based on a discontinued Michigan propeller, the boat has lost 200rpm and a bit of power out of the whole, but planes higher on the water and turns on a dime. It seems the old High Speed propeller was too much damaged, perhaps I could have gotten another new high Speed and improve handling while keeping the RPM previous rpm range. Anyway i'm happy.
