| Penta 5.0 sx only revs to 4000 rpm 2003 Four winns Horizon 190 I bought the bought used last year and had never taken it to full throttle until this year. It was the first time I didn't have my small children with me. Any one have any ideas why I can't get above 4000 rpm? I have a stock prop 14.25 x 21 that has a very slight bend in one blade. Also, the boat will shoot a small rooster tail once on plane. Is that realated to the bend in the prop blade or something totally different. Any help is apprecieated. thanks LL |

| The bent blade will not be doing you any good especially as it is noticable to be seen with the eye. You only need another 500-800 rpm The prop could be your problem. It needs replacing anyway. Borrow a few and spend a day trying them. Dont worry about the rooster tail. It would have been more relative if your RPM was high. |

| A bent blade must be fixed. It will induce an asymmetrical element to the drive geometry that will set up undesirable vibrations and eventually wear out the drive prematurely. That's a pretty steep prop for a boat like that. A prop dealer will probably be happy to help you swap out a few different props until you find one that suits you. I'd start with a 14.5x19 three-blade and work from there.
