Move Power Steering Cylinder on Mercruiser 4.3 MPI?

Anyone know whether it's possible to relocate the power steering cylinder to the port side of a Mercruiser 4.3 MPI sterndrive?
(ie so it sticks out the port side instead of the starboard side...)

Yes, I think so, but the working direction must be reversed, so you'll need a new set of hydraulic hoses because the standard ones cannot be exchanged.

But why should you want to do it?

Well, I'm working on a design where the space on the stbd side of the engine is quite restricted.... by the time all the associated bits are attached, I'm not sure there would be room....

I went and took a look at the set-up on my own today...a bravo 3 hooked up to a Yanmar 6BY. It looks like a dedicated casting, so I'm not so sure about swapping it all over.
In the end, I think it may be easier to change the design than the installation....
Thanks for the input CDK...

dont forget you can get ( from aftermarket sources) a remote steering cylinder set up assuming you are still ok with the steering cable location a new transom mounted cylinder can be installed on the outside.
