is it marine, or not?

my new old motor is not reaving up under load, only about 2000rpm's around 5000 in nutaral, i was told might be out of a car, and if it is it needs a marine cam and pistons ,the motor is a aq140A volvo , how can i tell for sure it runs fine out of the water theres new wires,plugs pionts,fuel filter,

Have you ever heard of serial numbers? How about part numbers and casting numbers? If you found one, can you determine it's year built, manufacture location, etc? If not, wouldn't it be a good idea to find someone who can determine these quite basic "investigative" needs?



This will answer the majority of your questions and offer clues to repairs, though it does assume you've handled the box end of wrench before.

Before doing anything, you should have this book.
