| Engine stalls in neutral I have a 1989 Sea Ray 220DA with a 5.7 Mercruiser 260hp V8 engine that I purchased in March. I was told that it had set for two years prior to me buying it. The dealer filled it up with gas and delivered it to my marina. I have taken it out four times without any problems. Recently, when I return to the ramp to load it on my trailer it stalls as I shift from forward to neutral. I am always able to restart it immediately. Yesterday it stalled twice while I was manuvering it into position. What should I be looking at to correct this problem? Any help would be appreciated. |

| Check the shift interrupt switch for proper operation and adjustment. Also, the intermediate shift cable should move freely. Consult the manual for procedures and photos.

| I have not had it fixed yet. My conversations with the mechanics at the boat dealership confirm what I was told. They have indicated that replacing the switch and adjusting the cable is something that I can do. It is an easy fix. The switch costs $90.00. If it requires replacing the cable, the outdrive will need to be removed. This will involve hiring a mechanic and driving up the cost. I'm hoping that replacing the switch and checking the cable adjustment is all that it requires. Good luck. |
