Can I use a Mercruiser outdrive to replace an alpha 1 ?

I have a boat with an alpha 1 but have a spare mercruiser outdrive. I am trying to go fishing this week and want to try using the spare mercruiser outdrive I have in the garage. Will it work, they look the same but I'm sure it's not that simple.

P.S.

the mercruiser out drive came off of a 1985 Century with a Chevy V8

I want to put it in another century boat that is a 93 but has a newer engine in it and has an alpha 1 out drive currently on it now but has spun the prop and is now making a horrible noise in forward but not reverse.

any help would be appreciated.

The old Merc. will fit to the Alpha-1 hole pattern, but there may be an issue with the trim cylinders requiring some minor improvisations.
