support of aluminum hull

can I remove the middle seat of my 12' aluminum boat to make a semi flat wooden deck or are the rivets around the seat and the seat design for support? it is just a piece of aluminum folded on the edges riveted to the hull and screwed to a 1/2" wooden seat. thank you for your assistance
