Of course they are lying . The fact is most manufacturers do not want the public knowing their boats' STIX numbers, for the people not comparing with other brands. Tell them so and ashame them.

I have searched for the Bavaria 44 at the RYA Stability List (http://www.rya.org.uk/KnowledgeBase/...ilitydata.aspx) but, although listed, its STIX doesn't appear. Sorry.

Cheers.

Thanks for the link Guillermo. The RYA is quite very frank on that issue:

Quote:
Since June 1998 all new recreational boats sold in the EU have been required by law (the RCD*) to have
undergone a stability assessment with the preferred method being the application of ISO 12217. This means
that all but a very few new monohull ballasted sailing boats sold in the UK (including all of those imported)
should have had a GZ / RM curve generated, their displacement and AVS determined and a STIX calculated.
To this end, by the time you read this, the RYA will have circulated a copy of this article to builders together wi
a request for stability data on their models. Where this has been received it well have been published on the
Technical part of the RYA web site. If the data is not there then ask for it and also suggest it should be sent to
the RYA. If it’s still not made available then smell a rat.
And thats good!

Richard

If you know what category your yacht falls into (A, B, C or D) you know at least the range of the STIX number, for example Category B ranges from 23 to 32. A bavaria 44 is probably meant for open ocean (catergory A), so should have a minimum number of 32. Do you need to know the exact number, or is a safe estimate (32) sufficient?

Thanks to everyone that tried to help on this matter, the reason I was asking is the Royal Ocean Racing Club need to have a STIX figure before we can enter the yacht into some of the races. I have emailed them the builders certificate which states it is built to cat A and should have the minimum requirement but they are still asking for the figure.
The bavaria dealer have asked the factory several times and still no luck.
