Stability of Barge and

Hello Group,

My first post here. Greetings.

I have a question, regarding wave excitation of a barge.

I have a Very large 102'x276'x22' barge weighing 1718 LTons or 1924 Tons.

It is basically a box, I have been given

KG = 10.59ft

I calculated the draft as

T = 2.19*ft
KB = 1.1 *ft
BM = 395*ft
KM = 396*ft
GM = 386*ft
K = 0.42*B = 42.84*ft

and Period of Roll

T= 2.42*s (This seems very short)

The barge is to be moved on Lake Michigan, with a building on top of it.

I have the period of 5s between waves and possibly wave height of 6 ft worst case.

I was wondering if any of you with Naval Architecture software could look at these numbers and let me know if they are close, and if you could help me locate the formula's to calculate the maximum angle of tilt that these waves will cause on the barge.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are rules from the different Classification Societies on this. I use Bureau Veritas ones at the office, but I will only be able to give you a clue on them after Dec the 26th, sorry. Maybe you could ask them directly.
Cheers.

High GM value

When the GM is very high the rolling period will be very small and the barge becomes stiff.
What is the vaue you are taking for the breadth? 102' OR 276'
