heave added mass

    Hi everyone

    Currently in my 4th year of Naval Architecture at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow.

    Have been given a coursework and one of the questions is 'Describe how you would conduct an experiment to measure the heave added mass of a semi-submersible platform at frequencies different from its natural frequency'

    Struggling to find any papers/textbooks with a good description of the above mentioned experiment. If any knows of any or can describe a suitable experiment help would be much appreciated! :)

    The idea is that a test model is forced to move up and down (heave) in a test tank using for example, hydraulic actuators, at a range of oscillation frequencies. A force sensor between the model and a stationary supporting structure provides data to help calculate the added mass.
