Approved stability software

We need the stability software which is approved by any classification society.
Please, advise something.
Thank you.

GHS by Creative Systems is widely accepted.

Do you want a hydrostatics design package or a stability package for a ships master like cargomax ?

Hydrostatics are accepted ( not specifically approved) from most of the major outfits so long as they are free to trim and can accommodate free surface calcs and damaged stablity.

Hydromax and GHS are commonly used. I used to run designs in different packages as a cross check, I've never found any discrepancy. Guillermo had some trouble with some software he was using once, can't remember which package.

Read Andrews response 2nd post in this thread click on link Maxsurf or Autoship

Double check with the classification society to make sure the hydrostatics software is acceptable. For example, ABS will not accept MAXVCG calculations from AutoHydro if they differ from GHS.

Thanks to all for response!

I find link on some approval certificates of GHS Load -> http://www.ds-t.com/general-cd/Certi...&Approvals.htm
List of stability software approved by Russian Marine Register -> http://rmrs.com.ua/?p=348
HydroMax is exellent tool but it is not approved.
Somebody use Bureau Veritas VeriSTAR Stability?

I think it very much depends on what you wish to use the stability software for. Generally intact stability software packages are not 'approved' by Class Societies or Maritime Administrations unless they form part of an onboard loading/stability computer system. ie where they may be used by ship's staff to check stability and loading info in real time.
Stability software that is used to generate hard copy stability manuals for use onboard commercial ships (SOLAS type vessels) is generally not approved
i.e. the stability manuals are not automatically approved just because "xyz" software was used, nor are they rejected because "abc" software was used - the hard copy stability manual itself is approved and this has to be put onboard the ship - this is usually after the approving authority has generated an independent stability model using their own in house software for the ship in question and obtained results close enough to those contained in the submitted stability manual - thereafter that manual (not the software) is approved for that ship only.

Of course this means that the stability software you use has to give consistent and accurate results (otherwise the approving authority will not be able to replicate them with their software) and the packages quoted above seem to be in widespread use

If you have a specific project in mind it may be useful to ask the Class Society or Flag State if there is any stability software which they favour

Best regards

To my knowledge there is no "approved" stability software. But class society has created some.

I worked on the development of VeriSTAR Stability in Bureau Veritas.
It has been check by the stability department of BV on several issues.

What kind of ship and study (intact, damage, probabilistic) do you want to make?

I tested the demo of VeriSTAR Stability. As I understand it can't import hull geometry from another CAD system - It has own hull modeller. Is it right or I don't understand something? And Bureau Veritas does not sell less than three licences...

That's right. Import of other types of file should be done in 2011.

I think Maxsurf-Hydromax is very good stability program for intact and damage conditions. Pls find it www.formsys.com. I use it for plan approval calculations.

I agree with that one. In our research for Class Approved stability software, we found none except that some are more popular than the others and class societies tend to favor (use) one more than the other.

GHS seems to be the favored one.

NAPA is also used by most class societies and therefore easly accepted. However, NAPA is a complicated and extensive program and takes some time to learn.
