Asking for your salary expectations before revealing the package helps them if your expectation is less than they are prepared to pay for the right guy, remember this is min 12m project maybe only 12m max contract worth more salary than perment contract. From where I am Koreans don't have the best reputation and most here avoid doing biz with them. They don't need a corkscrew to open a wine bottle, a nail will do just as well they're so.... |

Korean manufacturing quite apart from being one of the most efficient in the world is full of european/american subsiduaries. There are many reason why a company offer like stated above may be dubious. The nationality is normally not the reason for worry. You get rotten companies everywhere. Criminality and dodgy contracts are not the preserve of any nation. Me and colleagues are currently involved in labour dispute with my dutch boss who has been less than honest. It perhaps isn't so odd not to name company in initial mail out. Korea isn't known for yacht building. A company is obviously wanting a new venture by the sounds of it. They maybe don't want the opposition to know. Just my optimistic/positive take on it. If I had the skills, I'd reply. What have you got to lose? (unless you don't like pickled cabbage morning noon and night )

They certainly are progressive and modernizing and they also cheat, lie, fail to honor agreements or a warrantee and will try to screw theie supplier or client at every opportunity and are no different to most Chinese businessmen in that regard. This is not a part of the world were business ethics takes a shine or one can live with ones head up one's arse. Stereotyping: abso*******lutely, pathetic: no, realistic: yes. |

| Sounds like you've had a really bad time over there watchkeeper. Stereotyping a whole country based on dealing with a few dozen people is short sighted however. I find it distasteful. Now I wouldn't be sending any personal information to a gmail account either without first asking to see a company website; the first email I'd send would be "tell me about your company." |

Typical issue in China: I purchased a 5000rmb magnetic exercise bike, 2 weeks later the 16 level programing monitor went pear shaped on several programes. I contacted the dealer, sent him the unit, it was returned with nada working. I contact the dealer, he avoids, lies, said it must be my fault etc etc. I contact the manufacturer, their service section said contact warrantee, warrantee section said contact dealer, dealer said contact area serviceman, serviceman said I don't come to your area and so the ******** goes round & round and the pity of it is the shortsighted attitude is what will keep 'made in China' just exactly that!. |

| I'll tell you what, if they promise to send me $5000 by cheque in the mail to cover my first month pay then I'll send them a $2000 money order (cashiers cheque, whatever you want to call guaranteed funds - cash) to cover my start up expenses, you know, lawyers fees, licenses, etc. Sound good? Money's in the mail. I can't wait to start! -Tom |
