Spend 3 to 6 months learning how to use any of several free marine type CAD drafting packages...

Hello Mick,
It might help to know what you are after, are you looking for a rough concept GA or things taking to a designed state. Are you looking to have design work done or your existing data converted into a 2D/3D hull/structure?

If you just want idea putting together you could likely do that yourself fairly quickly with some free software like draftsight. That or any draftsman could do what you need without any problem. If you need something more that that, such as the vessel designing, you'd mostly likely need the services (or assitance) of a Naval Architect.

Marine Drafter / Designer

Hi Mick, I can help to bring your design into CAD. Currently I work with both 3d / 2d for marine design and can easily supply the file in any required format. You will find non-proprietary samples available in the gallery with more on request.

Let me know how i can be of help...

Chris

Excellent

Thanks guys. Will finalize the notes and send them to you. What is the name of a service where the cad drawing is analyzed structurally and the structural loads are used to define the structural element makeup or laminates or composites. I'll be looking for that service too. Regarding the design, it's not a copy of an existing boat, it's different to all but takes bits from many.

Regards
Mick

Hi Mick, I have worked for the past 7 years in the design and engineering of racing yachts. I am able to complete your design in Solidworks to produce 2D drawings and 3D images. I could also complete the engineering of your design in composites. Please see my Linkedin profile http://www.linkedin.com/pub/brett-ellis/15/3b0/892

Brett.

Looking at what is needed...

This will all be dependent on the owner/designer's decision on the type of boat and materials to be used. Having said that a Naval Architect should be well versed in weight calculations and stability once its defined, but structural engineer for marine may also be needed. In the case of composite boats Laminate schedules are typically provided by the designer or marine consultant and they also vary for the boats use and construction...ie vacuum bag, infusion etc.
