Keen Kiwi Graduate Mechanical Engineer Looking for Marine Design/Engineering Work

Hello all,

I have recently completed my Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with Honours (BEng Hons) at the Auckland Unviersity of Technology, in New Zealand.

I am looking for any full time graduate/entry Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering or design positions within the marine industry in NZ, Australia, or anywhere else that may be applicable.

I majored in hydrodynamics of planing vessels for my final year research project (3/8 worth of points of the final year). This involved design, build and testing of a scaled model, which was conducted at the Australian Maritime College Tow Tank. The extent of testing was for 1 week (35-40 hours approx), and conducted completely by myself and one other naval architecture undergraduate, hence gaining significant experience using the test apparatus, as well as insight into various design and analysis processes.

My work experience includes being part of a production team for marine composites, in which foam core and fibreglass kits were manufactured for a range of vessels I also have 3 years experience as a salesperson for Haines Signature and Reflex trailerable powerboat packages and Mercury Outboard engines.

Skills
Excellent CAD skills with SolidWorks and MS Excel, beginner/intermediate with RhinoMarine. Produced an excel program as part of final years work which is applicable to many different planing forms. Specialised knowledge regarding planing hull hydrodynamics, resistance and lift prediction as well as design. My degree also incorporated several management based courses and computer aided design and manufacturing.

Have a strong ineterest in design, but ideally would like to learn anything and everything from structural (composites + others), hydrodynamics, sail aerodynamics, mechanical engineering, IC Engines, CFD, FEA etc, effectively anything to do with boats.

Have a passion for sailing yacht design as well as powerboats and superyachts.

CV upon request

Cheers and Best Regards

James Flett
