Invitation - Yacht builder required for a project

Hi Everyone,

Ok, I'll jump straight into what I am looking for:

We are looking at a yacht manufacturer interested in setting up a manufacturing plant for luxury yachts in Asia. We have plans to setup this boat yard with part investment from our end;i.e. land, labour and designs would be provided by us. We need the expertise, and experience of a high end luxury yacht builder. The benefits are as follows:
1. Lower cost of build - labour and certain raw materials
2. Good market
3. Good quality workmanship, etc.

If there's anyone interested, or knows someone we could get in touch with, please let me know.

Thanks and best wishes to all.

Hawkings.

A bit meagre your bait, don´t you think?

You should at least qualify the skills of the labourers you have at hand, the tax issues (including import taxes for engines and equipment), and the basic information what you understand being a "good market". Is it a market we did not deal with?

Each and every of the builders with the qualities you require, knows pretty well about the possibilities (and hughe disadvantages) of building in Asia.

Are you asking for FRP builders only, or are you open (and experienced) for other methods and materials?

Not to appear hostile, but there must be more "beef" to attract us going to Sri Lanka.

Actually I am planning to set up a new yard in SE Asia, under certain circumstances, maybe there is a way.

Regards
Richard

2. Good Market
What does in mean? Are you planning on selling yachts locally? It doesn't seem like there is any market at all over there.

We have not had yacht building so far. It is a very good idea if you can find a market and skill craftsman and technician. I am a Naval Architect teaching in a University and also started a boat yard in 2005. We have been manufacturing fishing boats but now I have developed a 19ft pleasure boat and mainly for export market. I thing that we should start from that begging as we have no really skill and qualified craftsman and technician in this field. You may have watched the boat launched by the Minister of fisheries on 16th of this month as a tuna long liner that was build at our yard with my technical know how. My basic degree is Mechanical Engineering. I am just putting my idea for your post as you are in Colombo.

Ok, so you have no market. That is the first false claim.
Also, 19 ft is small for a tender on a yacht. If you are asking for people to build basic commercial fishing boats for a Third World market, then say so.

Hi Gonzo

Basically my post for Hawkings not as a reply to yours. Evey body knows that we have no market withing the country. We have to produce for export market. I did not mean a basic fishing vessel but at least from good quality pleasure vessels.

Let me clarify something:

There is a market in Asia and that's what we are concentrating on. No where have I said its for the local industry. Frankly, I wouldnt be asking for a yacht manufacturer if we hadnt done our homework, dont you think??

We have done research and found the opportunity we were looking for. Appreciate if those interested only would respond in a respectable manner, as we expect some quality attributes from this forum rather than criticism, especially from those who are not fully aware of what available in this part of the world.

Thank you.

And now?

Am I included in your rant?

You might be impressed and surprised, that quite some of us know the Asian market longer and better than you probably do.

And now let me have the additional info I requested please.
You have my mail already.

Regards
Richard

Richard, just for the record I dont see a "rant" in my response, unless you want to see one!!

I have sent you a comprehensive email 2 days back. Suggest you please check your email. I have been quite open in the email with details simply because we are serious in our work, suggest you read it through and revert on the same mail with your thoughts and experience.

I am neither impressed or surprised that you might know the Asian market well and yes perhaps better than I do (do consider me less ego-centric), however the purpose of coming into this forum is to share and benefit - mutually. If you think you can do that, please reply to my email and lets talk thereafter.

Do excuse me if I do not reply on time due to commitments.

Thanks.
