    Hi everybody,

My name is Peter Byrne. I'm a recently graduated from Southampton Institute in Yacht Manufacturing and Surveying. I am currently at home in Ireland and have been searching the net for opportunities in the UK(I would consider a similar position anywhere and am willing to travel) but as this business we work in is very much contact and networking based I haven’t had much luck.

Most of my experience is as a boat builder and I have been involved in several large projects. I am now looking to get into an entry level in design office. My degree (as well as study on my own time) covered the principles of design and engineering for marine craft. I have good working knowledge of AutoCAD as well as MS Office and other computer programmes such as Rhino 3D and MaxSurf. I would consider any position in a design office at any level which would afford me the opportunity to not only increase my skill base but also utilise the knowledge and skills I already posses.

The Yacht Manufacturing and Surveying degree covered many aspects of the construction process as well as design. Modules such as Stability of Marine Vehicles, Design Concepts, Theory and Sails and Spars, Composite Technology, Material Science, Project Management and Manufacturing Management have given me a firm base from which to develop further.

Since graduating in June of 2005 I have been increasing my experience in regards to building. I felt that although design is where I want to be, it was important for me to see things from the point of view of the builder. I have been working in Italy on luxury sailing yachts as well as a short term contract in Valencia on an Americas Cup boat.

I hope that someone reading this post might have a position available or know of someone that I could contact in regards to this. If you have any questions for me or would like to contact me my Irish number and email are below.

    Thank you,

    Peter Byrne
