Very very new to sailing

I think that the type of yacht you would be making reference to is something with enough waterline length to provide sufficient boat for accommodation etc. The type of boat I would like to cross a ocean with would be about 60ft and not as much sail area as an Open 60.

I think yachtie has swallowed a little bit too much salt water, and thinks that the water off Morninigton represents a true ocean swell. Having sailed off the same yacht club, I am not too sure how he got so bitter since the club is very well run by some reasonable people.

What you hear from this thread and believe is up to you, but whether you think that you will learn more by sailing a keel boat or dinghy does not mean anything. The principles of sailing, do not have anything to do with the size of the yacht.

I would tend to believe some of the earlier responses such as referring to Cruising World magazine etc. as people like yachtie tend to feel that they have more to offer than their subjective views.
