| You could probably get them to jump ship if you sailed up on a 21' Bayliner Buccaneer. |

| God bless after 22 years one of the oldest records in ocean racing (I actually know of no longer one) just was broken. Please tell me you know which record that was. Hint. MacGregor 65. http://www.pv07.com/releases/022707_mdr.php Quick report from New Orleans Yacht club. The locals do not think the Katrina fire purposeful. However the Municipal Yacht Club is rebuilt and NOYC looks mighty sad. Did you know that in the 20s the red light district was in the park next to New Orleans Yacht Club? I didn't. Anyway none of the restaurants nearby are likely to ever be rebuilt. Might as well join Municipal. I observed several sailboats off "the point". Kiss Kiss. Things will get back to normal. Was offered a ride on a Tripp 30. Hope to do so. Frank L Mighetto Hush Hush I am he whose name should not be mentioned. ![]() |

Did you notice that Sailing Anarchy Incorporated (yes its a corporation) is starting a Yacht Club. God Bless um for the invitation. $10 bucks and I already have the burgee. But there is also Latitudes and Attitudes. Why do folks join clubs? If you are a sailor you already belong. Even an abrasive fellow such as I is welcome. You aren't crashing any party by showing up for a race. If at all possible, I would like US Sailing to move from RI to the West Coast. Its that system of patronage where the sons and daughters of the privileged get a nod that bothers me. In a day of Bethwaite simulators it should be obvious which of the young potentials is worthy and which just are in the Olympics program owing to birth right. The sport has suffered way to long owing to prevalent attitudes regarding who plays. That doesn't change with requirements to crew partially with under 30's unless the entire boat is crewed by the 50 plus, like me. |

Blue Water Yachts is having its intermediate sailing class tonight and I thought I would attend to chat informally at breaks about PHRF-NW race experience. The dealers old multihull Double Shot has established a race course tradition. The boat (renamed Nepenthe) plays the hound. Those of us in single hulled Macgregors sail in cruising class and get a 30 minute head start owing to that. Nepenthe then trys to catch the "foxes" before the first mark. Prior to overlap they count .. one, two three and then put fists in air and yell MACGREGOR!. How cool is that. Nepenthe means a drug that makes you dream. Is this a great sport or what? In any case, its more friendly on the PHRF courses. The explained roll of the Macgregors (to let the BS win) is falling away. According to a wise SSSS fleet captain, (its Kelly OK) BS stands for big ship as well as Bravo Sierra. The BS owners still believe that larger means faster but their crews can't help but notice smaller vessels pass from time to time and the old courtesy - meant to sooth the egos of the BS owners - of not listing DNS boats (boats that drop out and do not notify the committee boat on purpose because they have been bettered by a smaller boat) is not being extended. So there is now a public humiliation penalty for pouting after being passed. Frank L. Mighetto Mac26x Murrelet |

| Frank, I'm not a very smart guy and can't see the connection between your comments above and the previous discussion. No surprise there, I'll just take your word for it that they are relevant. Going to a sailing class to learn about PHRF racing seems like a good idea since I remember you had some difficulty with the starting sequence some time back. Any comments on the Scuttlebutt story this morning? It sounds like RORC is conceding the Grand Prix arena to the TP52 and other box rule classes. How can that be since the TP52 is so flawed? They are not even US east coasters. You need to get on the stick and let them know what a mistake that would be. |
