| Thanks for your help guys. Tried a few things since my last post. Club boom wouldn't work because of cabin but appreciate the principal. More sail up front (with a temporary genoa) improved things a bit. Then I tried raising the jib, just 12", to be clear of the cabin, using a strop... and bingo - she's right up into the wind where she should be. Although it wasn't obvious from the tell-tails, which are a fair way up the sail, I guess the turbulance and drag of the cabin were 'spoiling' the full power of the jib into the wind. Problem solved. |

| Follow up for anyone interested! Seeing as so many of you contributed, I thought I would just post a follow up for anyone interested. This is the log from last Sunday when I sailed up Southampton Water. Goose-winging on the way up in a gentle south-easterly then tacking back into the wind against a small tide. As you can see, lifting the jib clear of the cabin has definitely made a difference. She's full of surprises and I'm starting to appreciate her again. Thanks for your contributions. Pompey |
