Bugger. Had the boat out to watch them come in, but they are still 3 hours away. Will have to watch from the balcony.
Rambler is 50 miles behind. The crew on Commanche reported 40 knots, but the tracker is only saying 3 knots.

Where's your sense of adventure? It doesn't get dark until 2130 or so. Get out there in your canoe!

haha. We had a 18ft aluminium boat, but the skipper didn't know where the lights were or if the battery was on the boat. In the end we watched the black sails glide slowly through the finish line to the sound of the very loud 1870's cannon fired by the red coated replica gun crew.

Just gazing out over a tranquil Derwent river waiting for the two boats to ghost up to the finish line.

Cant believe they are so far behind Commanche - the must have had no breeeze at all since last night.

After leading for so long Rambler loses it in the last fraction of a mile!

Hooray - this time we got out on the river. Great to watch the tow battle it out.

Rambler was very unlucky. They were more aggressive with the sail changes, and much faster on the tacks than Ragamuffin 100. Ragamuffin had some roller furling issues as well - and that wouldnt have helped.

Rambler lost to pure bad luck - heading inshore where the wind died out, while Ragamuffin caught a breeze in the middle of the river.

Great racing. It will be interesting to see how the photos turn out.

I would expect Rags to be slower in the tacks considering she is missing a freaking board and the crew had to switch the remaining one from side to side on a 100 footer. Outstanding effort clawing their way back into it imho. Any idea her lineage?

Must be a shipwright's bonanza when all the damaged boats reach port.

While DSS (the company) were involved in the design of Wild Oats XI's original horizontal foil in 2013, that foil broke in 2014 and was replaced with one designed entirely by Wild Oats' design team that they say is "not a DSS [foil]". Since then, the boat has undergone some radical changes and there are no claims from DSS that they were involved beyond 2013.

To call Wild Oats XI's foil "DSS" is incorrect, so please stop doing so.
