| Gentlemen, I have been gone for a day, and I come back to find several good posts. Vega, thanks for post #23 much time goes into compiling data, and there are some good testimonies there from several boat owners. (although I may be a bit suspicious of testimonies from those that are selling their boat. )

| "The core question that it bothering me is that how well do the moder mass production cruiser/racer designs really lend themselves for this kind of usage - especially Ocean crossing? What bothers me is that most of the manufacturers do not really bother publishing e.g. the AVS, STIX and GZ curves on their brochures." I think the stability questions are not given much attention because most of these boats do not seem to have the SCANTLINGS required for prolonged offshore service. AS a true offshore cruiser will be perhaps 200% or more stronger than a quickie cruiser/racer and cost 200% to 300% more to construct , and will not be as quick round the clubhouse buoys as the stronger offshore boat. The expected loads carried and equipment installed will be very different , engine size , rigging size , reefer, noise maker , ground tackle and recovery gear, dink, outboards , sun covers , the list is almost endless. And all adds weight. The sole savior of the production boat is the ability to sail only in "season" . Circumnavigations have been made in under 35K max wind , but it takes a lot of beach time , waiting , waiting , waiting. FF |

| Fred Jimmy Cornell (ARC) notes that the majority of non-cruising veterans buy on the appearance not the suitability of the vessel, and when surveyed express perfect satisfaction or even something akin to rapture when describing their boat, but later they often buy a completely different one.
