Smallboat building, Turkey

Hi all, well I am shortly moving to Turkey, I will be living in a small village about 28KM from Marmairis. It would be a shame to live in such a beautiful costal area, and not have any type of boat!

I would love to own a small sailboat/dinghy that I could explore the coast with, just 12' or so. Something I could handle alone, and preferably pull up on the beach if I wanted to camp on a beach overnight, maybe do a spot of fishing in. Maybe even fit a small outboard motor later.

I found a few examples of something which would be ideal,

http://www.btinternet.com/~w.serjean...-sb/mindex.htm <-Perfect
http://www.boatplans-online.com/proddetail.php?prod=V12 <- not bad
http://www.boatplans-online.com/prod....php?prod=AR15 <- probably very expensive
http://www.boatplans.dk/boatplans/sail_boats.asp <- Sea Scout 1, in my dreams!

So anyway, I was wondering if anyone had info on boat building in Turkey. I know that there are a great deal of boat builders in the area, but does anyone have any idea what it is going to cost me to have one of these built?

I don't have much, and I guess that it will be more than I can afford to have one built, so I may have to look for a used example (probably still too much), or build myself if it comes to it.

Does anyone have any info on the types of prices for used boats or materials that I will be looking at in Turkey? Any online resources?

Many Thanks

I lived in Sinop on the Black Sea for a year in 1971-72. It was a wonderful experience.

Different coastal environments favor different boat designs. You might be best advised to wait until you have some familiarity with the local circumstances before you make a selection.

The people that I encountered were able and honest businessmen and I am sure that to the extent you can afford it they will be able to meet your needs once you determine what they are.

Well, realistically, I would be looking for something in the £300 region, so thinking seriously, not dreaming, I couldn't even build a balsawood raft for that, lol!

Hi,
I just moved to Bodrum (place near Marmaris) from istanbul.. I'm a naval architect who is in Bodrum to build 27m. wooden sailing yacht.
Maybe I can help you to have that kind of boat with the min. budget. This is also my dream.. If you are still interested just get in contact.. Maybe we can find a way..

Take care..
Kerim
