Seeking shallow draft boat with family comfort I am seeking a sailboat to be used on the Chesapeake Bay with the following constraints: 9'6" beam max 30" draft before centerboards 30' to 35' with comfort features for family of 5 for overnighters. Any ideas? Thank you, Greg

| Greg: In order to reply in a meaningful way, I would need more information from you. I am a builder in Ohio and would like to discuss your specifications if a new build is one of your options. Please email at the address below.

Are you looking to build or buy? I have several plans for Chesapeake based designs (sharpies, skipjacks, etc.) in that size range. I grew up on the eastern shore.

Boats like Bahama Mama are great for the Chesepeke area. You may prefer full headroom, however. Look at Norwalk Island Sharpies, which come in sevral sizes and feature standing headroom in the larger sizes.

Although I would love a wooden boat once my kids are grown up, I am looking for a fiberglass boat now. Can be new or used. I am open to considering various types of boats or 2 masts. Basic comfort includes generator and A/C to survive the summers on the Bay.

yes there are places we can't go, but there are plenty of other places on the bay we can get to with a 4'6" draft. If you really need a centerboard the Oday 30 has one and there were several other boats built in the '80s for use in the islands that have centerboards. Can't think of the names right now.
