Schooner prints?

A´hoy!

I´ve got an equire about plans fore an old type schooner, it´s seems next to imposible to get hold of good plans that are posible to build from.
By old type I considder year 1900+/-30

What length are you looking for?

Do you require plans actually from 1900-30, or would you be content with plans from a contemporary designer for a traditionally designed schooner that is aesthetically consistent with that time period?

I agree that decent plans probably are hard to get hold of. Part of the problem could be due to the shortage of skilled labour in your part of the world as it is here. I have an original arrangement/lines plan framed on my office wall of a 119' schooner from 1908. It looks nice but you couldn't build from it - there is not enough detail. I believe that the plan came from the museum archives before it was framed.

My best suggestion would be to contact a designer to emulate the style you are looking for using more modern techniques. A client over here started doing a similar thing but has updated the concept significantly since we started.

I think R. S. Douglas, designer of Shenandoah, is elderly but still lives in Vinyard Haven (as does Nat Benjamin of Gannon & Benjamin).

Commander L.B. Jenson produced quite detailed measured drawings of the 1921 Roue-designed 143-ft Grand Banks Schooner "Bluenose" that include lines, construction, rigging, and sail plans, as well as much detail work. Contact the Bluenose Preservation Trust in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia
