Yoav may have his own comments but I see a number of advantages of this rig and Yoav's set up: 1) lower CE as compared with a triangular sail,2) more efficient than a triangular sail,3) among the most important for this application is the fact that with the brilliant way the sail is set it will not get in the way of the crew from one tack to another, 4) downwind it will be relatively balanced across the boats centerline making the boat easier to steer than with a conventional sail. All attibutes that are important for a boat of this type.

Good questions,
My answer:
1. "What Doug said" (-Thanks Doug! )
2. Although it's possible to sail this boat with different sails the design problem I wanted to solve was: -"How to have a novice sailor feel comfortable and confident from the moment he/she gets in the boat, be able to sail well enough within minutes, and get a rewarding sailing experience?".
Performance had to be measured primarily by degrees of "Simplicity", "Ease" and "Fun".
Being able to eliminate the rudder reduced complexity. It was important to be able to operate the boat with one hand.
