| Sailing garvey questions Hi: I have some questions about the Sandspur from the June 1929 Rudder that I found on the net. http://www.friend.ly.net/~dadadata/short/gandy.html Would this garvey row well, and do fairly good in heavy weather? I like the idea of the gaff cat rig because of the shorter spars that are required. Is the leg-o-mutton a better rig for this boat or is it a toss up between the two rigs. Could someone give me some approximate dimensions for the rudder as there are none on the plans. Thanks for your comments |

| Everything is relative :-) The flat bottom will slam in a (heading) seway, and also gives more wetted surface (more resistance) when rowing. I guess this can be justified by very quick and simple building? You can measure the rudder on the drawings. A shorter, depper rudder os of course more efficient, but has to be lifted when beaching. |
