Are any Q23s in the US?

Continuing my thought about righting, I would speculate that the lowest wind speed foiling would be with the crew out on the trapeze.

You have been showing your D2 for a while. It looks finished. Has it been in the water yet?

Don't understand your thinking there. Most of the light air foiling shots show the crew just sitting-not out on the wire. Of course the faster the boat goes the more apparent wind.......

The D2 was float tested months ago but hasn't sailed yet. Getting close.....

It's odd that there are so few race results available. Here's a few

1- Finishing behind an Ultimate 20 ('80s or '90s US boat) and a Surprise (sort of like a J/24) here; (http://www.zsv.info/uploads/tx_isranking/Einlaufliste_SCE_2015_b.pdf)

2- Finishing behind a Chaps 30 and ahead of some Onyxs here; http://www.zsv.info/uploads/tx_isranking/R1_SVK_2016.pdf The Chaps is an old 30 foot "sportsboat" from the '80s; the Onyx a newer design of 28ft but rather in the style of a modern Etchells or Dragon; that is, it has quite a small rig and is a slender boat rather than a beamier and more powerful modern design.

Remarkable about this story: The previous record holder Simsalabim is a barely 11m long Libra era B with 100m2 sail area at the wind and 10 men at the wire. Accordingly, the record attempt had to be minutely planned. On November 4, 1987, she needed for the approximately 60km long distance 3h 34min 41 sec. Year of the ZYC.

The decision of the two-body Quant23 crew to start a new record attempt fell on the 5th of October exactly one hour before the start at the ZYC by 14.07, after the consultation of the wind prediction and the shift of two business meetings (important goes before
SuzyQ showed (And a few hundred meters longer than the new course of the ZSV around the Gubelfelsen) in 3h 29min, which was able to subdue the previous record by more than 5min . This although the upper part of the lake (as usual) weakened the bise and was nothing with foilen.

For Muger it was a boy's dream come true and I am of course thief, that goes with such a small bootee. Perhaps QuantBoats should "institutionalize" further record attempts on this route and provide it with a nice "price tag". Well done boys & thanks!

I didn't want you to forget....

 

Forget that under good conditions the boat can get a B classer's record? I hadn't done that. No one has said that in the right conditions the boat cannot get up and go very well. That is completely different to trying to get an objective idea of the way the boat performs across the full range of conditions.

In addition to whats below, the boat takes off earlier than a Moth or an A Class cat which means it flies in lighter air than almost any other foiler. Only the Whisper claims a similar light air takeoff.
Light air takeoff extends the usable wind range of the boat which has got to be good news for owners of the boat. The days are gone when foiling in 10 knots plus was "normal".
So far her extraordinary light air foiling performance is supplemented by top speeds over 26 knots according to the builder and designer.

 

And yet she's been beaten by an '80s design sportsboat in every race that I can find. So does that mean that the '80s design can also hit 19-20 knots in 7 knots of wind and go upwind at 15 knots? Obviously not; no boat of that type gets that speeds.

If the Q23 can reliably do that sort of performance then why is it getting beaten by the Q30 and the '80s design across the line in every result I can find? Why can't we find lots of races where it has been first across the line by a long way.....or indeed first at all?

I would say the info from the designer and builder is much more credible than results supplied with no more info than placings. But you could always write Hugh or Michi and ask them about it.
