overlaping geni's or aggressive non-over laping jibs?

what makes the non-over lap sail plan better and how? What are some of the rigging adjustments you have to make for this set up.

thank you
erik

It is obvious (I think) that SA without overlap must be at least as big as with overlap; even a little bigger. So your J will have to grow considerably. By putting the mast more aftwards or your forestay more forwards.

Advantages: easier to handle (tacking your boat is less fuzz) and your genoas/jibs won't get damaged on the leech so fast (the leech will not be chafed by rigging). Another advantage can be (if you want that) to place the chainplates all the way out to your sheerline, which means less compression on the rig and will result in being able to fit a lighter mastprofile/rigging (safe weight aloft & safe money).
Plus: it is what people ask nowadays, so there is also a commercial point of view to consider when you are involved in boatbuilding. Last but not least for racers ... it might give a rating advantage.
