Open Floor Plans

Anyone happen to have any links to either production sailboats or plans that feature open floor plans (lack of bulkheads) in the 22 to 27 foot range?

Excusing my ignorance, do bulkheads add that much strength to the hull where they are essential on larger vessels or could they be removed from a production boat with reinforcing some other way.

Thanks

Bulkheads are one of the main structural members in a boat. They can be designed with other type of reinforcement, but just to remove them will be a disaster.

Not to mention that they cut down engine noise, slow down fires and keep the water out in a collision.

Though I don't know of too many 27 foot yachts with a significant number of bulkheads..
