the 4th Halfton classic cup will be sailed at the end of august in Niuwpoort, Belgium.

The halfton cup nowdays will be sailed under IRC and there are some boats, mentioned in this thread, which are already inscripted for the regatta.

Yes, besides Eivind Still Finland has well established designers, such as Guy-Christer Lönngren. The aft overhang of the quarter-tonner Guy 27 inspired several other designers. Its sloping transom made even Laurie Davidsson look in envy. The Guy 33 most certainly can measure half-ton.

actually I'm more into swedish halftonners since I'm the co-owner of Södergrens design called Blues, built for the 1980 HTC, lying currently in Belgium and eagerly waiting for the 2009 cup to start.. (I could add a picture if I only knew how..)

Well, regading pictures, instead of "quick reply" do a "reply". Pick on the attach icon ("gem" in Swedish) there you can upload from your own directories. The downward arrow to the right of the "gem" inputs your picture. I test myself with the Guy 27. That transom inspired Joubert and Nivelt to design ArBigouden.

Obviously new keel and rudder. Where is the skeg? I was not aware the HT Class allowed modifications to the hull itself. I thought they only allowed changes to the rig, deck, and appendages. Maybe they consider the skeg as part of the rudder when it comes to changes?

Yes the rudder and keel are changed, but according to my knowledge this boat never had a skeg.

That is surprising. I don't think I ever saw an IOR boat, except one-way ULDBs, that lacked the IOR skeglet just ahead of the rudder. The rating advantage for having it was just too much to walk away from.

That's interesting.

Even the boats at the end of the IOR era (late 80s) were still showing the vestigial skeglet. I believe this is a Dubois One Tonner from the mid '80s. The later boats I saw were all similar, from people like Farr, R/P, N/M, Frers, etc.

Hi, I'm an Aussie and here there are lots of old Quarter Tonners still cruising and racing here, especially the Holland 25 of which 250 were built in Australia from mid 70s till 1980 (I own Mystique in photo under renovation currently, built 1978).

These are solid built yachts that have survived well and many renovated and actively raced in Club racing (sometimes surprising the bigger boat owners by beating yachts five times their cost). These are fixed keel boats (except for a couple of swing keels) in masthead or fractional rigs.

Out of interest none had any skeg but had deep blade rudders. This is a deep keel version, there werre also shallow draft keels (longer but shorter but not as good) and even swing keel versions. Length: 25' (7.62m), LWL: 20'3" (6.17m), Beam: 10' (3.04m), Draft: 5' (1.52m), Displacement: 3500lb (1590kg), Ballast: 1650lb (750kg)

Nice pics of your boat Blues. The designer Håkan Södergren is famous for clean lines, no tortured hulls. Boats such such as A:et (minitonner), Helmer Bryd, Helmers Brud (The bride of Helmer) and Blues. Perhaps the reason for no skeg is in this design-filosophy. Södegren worked for several years in Florida. Nowadays he lives in the ski-resort Åre (Sweden). Södergren and Peter Norlin designed the Swedish Americas Cup challenger "Tre Kronor" (for San Diego, year ?). Two years ago Södergren designed a fast 2.4mr.

Plenty around here. My Ben Lexcen quarter tonner has just a blade rudder. There are 70 of them around the country. Lot of half tonners with the same rudder set up too.

Here is my boat. It's a Peter Cole designed "Cole 26". Around 1984.
There are 3 down here in Victoria that I am aware of. I've only ever seen another couple for sale interstate.
