need rig advice

I just finished a hull, 31 feet long 10 foot beam. and was considering a really retro look for her, now this is my own boat ...so my goals are for a rig that is very strong,has a lagre number of sail options can be repaired easily, and self tending wouldn't hurt
I was looking at a gaff rigged cutter setup with mast hoops , ratlines ...I did say retro ...speed is not as big a consideration as having a shorter mast is ...and I do like cutters! ...anyway ...thoughts... experiences

So, I guess the question is... what kind of hull shape are you using as a match to the rig with which you just had to get going so quickly?

It's not often that someone asks such a loaded question and then, without any posted reponses whatsoever from the really bright guys on this forum, has it all figured in slightly over 24 hours.

Can you show us the hull form to which you are pairing your rig conclusions? I, for one, would like to know what she's going to look like with your chosen rig setup.

the hull is modeled after the "Captain Blackburn" it is a William Garden design plan number 78 from the wooden boat store
I just increased her size slightly...as to why did I decide so quickly to go with the gaff...instead of waiting to be convinced ...one way or the other by the members of this forum...well I was bored last night so I sat up talking to a friend of mine who is a sailmaker...I was worried that the gaff cutter would be too complicated to singlehand, but he convinced me otherwise.
...also the capt Blackburn was designed for a gaff cutter rig...and the sails that I already have can easily be recut to work with this rig..

do a search for the gaff rigged "CRUSOE" she is a beautiful boat, she could convince a blind man!

What rig did the designer call for? Rig design is usually considered before the hull is built so location of bulkheads, chainplates etc are set in stone before the hull is complete.

It is quite a challenge to get the centres of effort of a gaff rig in the right place on a hull that was designed for another rig.

I think so too ...gonna be pouring the ballast keel for her next week...not looking forward to it!
