    Moth on Foils!

Apparently, there are 4 scow foilers among the almost 160 boats registered for the Sorento Worlds.

To my eyes, the side profile of this boat would look to have a lower wind drag that the typical moth foiler.

    Moth on Foils!

Maybe when they're sailed level-but it might be more when sailed with veal heel. The boat in the pictures appears to have two side by side vertical fins.
Veal Heel is important-up to 40% more righting moment, unloading the vertical fin, getting the crew weight lower it would be interesting to see if the scows use veal heel or not.

I also saw what looks like side by side verticals - I did not think this was legal.

    Moth on Foils!

As I understand it it would be legal on the scow because they're attached to the hull.

So you can have as many boards as you like? I thought there was a limit to one board and one rudder? I'll have to read the rules again. Peter

Peter, here are the Class rules-I can't see anything prohibiting dual boards:

it says centreboard "singular". If you can use 2 boards for instance a narrow hull could use a canted port and stbd board to gain Rm. Or in the scows case seperated boards as photographed to gain Rm. Does anyone have a proper interpretation of this? Peter

    Moth on Foils!

I think this answers it without the need for interpretation:
    From definitions:
    5. Foil- Any centreboard, fin, hydrofoil used for lift, stability or lateral resistance.
