    Moth on Foils!

More on John Ilett's new production Moth: https://www.facebook.com/Fastacraft
The boat is damn close to doing 30+ knots three weeks out of the mold!
John Ilett pioneered the wand system on a foiling Moth.....

    Moth on Foils!

News Flash: one of the top Moth sailors predicted today that there would be 140 boats at the upcoming UK Worlds! That is flat incredible and great for the largest foiler class on the planet.

    Moth on Foils!

I've been told that the Moth Class speed is faster than what is posted here. Of course, it isn't a record unless you read it at the top of this thread! Moths have been the fastest sailboat under 20' for years. But now with the use of refined versions of UptiP* foils on cats like the Flying Phantom ,whose top speed already matches the Moths top speed prevoisly recorded here(32knots)-these foilers are just at the earliest stages of reaching their full potential.

*A foil configuration(single main foil +two rudder foils) and a foil with no moving parts that has heave stability similar to a boat with a good wand based altitude control system.

Moth on Foils: 35.9 knots(41.29 mph) / 36.6 knots peak!

Excerpt from article on SA frontpage( http://sailinganarchy.com/ ) with info on Ned Goss's record(see previous post) :
And Ned’s not done yet. “I really didn’t believe it until I sent my entire Pro-Start back to Velocitek so they could verify everything, but now I think 40 knots is very much possible on Charleston harbor,” Ned told us. “This is pretty much a bone-stock Mach 2 with no work at all done either on hydrodynamic or aerodynamic fairing, which is clearly a big issue at over 40 mph,” he said. “That info, combined with the fact that I had adverse current on my record run, makes me think that 40 knots is just around the corner.” Wanna go beat Ned? Here’s how:

Wind speed: 18-22 Gust to 25
    Wind Direction: SSE
Sea state: Dead flat at start of run
    Skipper Weight: 202 lbs.
    Height: 6′
    Boat: Mach 2
    Mast: CST stiff
Upright: Standard Mach 2 vertical, painted but not that fair
Horizontol: Small version, with no filler or fairing on flap
    Rudder: Medium standard
Tramps: Low drag with air bladders (for newbie borrowers)
    Cunningham: 6 to 1
    Vang: 36 to 1
    Instruments: Velocitek Pro-Start
Camera: Go-Pro on tiller – not turned on (D’oh!)
Hiking straps, booties, farmer john, PFD, rash: Zhik
Prod/spreader: set 90 degree to mast for power
Vang/Cunno: Boom slightly less than 1.5 shackles from backstay (cheese wire)
    Time in Class: 2 years

I have a moderately accurate VPP for predicting Moth performance. it correlates nicely with Ned's numbers and 40 knots is certainly possible with the right wind, TWA, sea state and crew weight

Moth on Foils!------faster than an AC 45!

This is kinda hard to see but just after one minute in, in the upper right hand corner you can momentarily see a Moth sailed by David Lister overtaking the non-foiling AC 45's! Verified by Technologica who talked to Lister about it.
    Way cool....
