Mini 6.50 fleet in the N.E. U.S.

I've heard the idea put forward of trying to get a Mini 6.50 fleet started in New York or southern New England. Here's the official Mini 6.50 site (in French): www.transat650.org

Here's an unofficial web site in English: www.xs4all.nl/~blvrd

Here are some people who could make it happen:
James Bird
www.1race1ocean.com
Rich du Moulin
http://www.sitesalive.school.aol.com...l/dumoulin.htm
Ted Fondulas
www.spiritofny.com
Geoff Van Gorkom

Scott Sandell
www.mothboat.com
Debbie Druan

Anyone interested? Post your name and contact info here, or use this thread to pull it together!

NA Race Circuit

Hi Stephen and Mini Obsessed!

Let's talk about a possible circuit in NA...
Because we may have a critic mass now...
And working on a construction project for two new Minis in Canada. And because Canada and US can work together in this path!

What kind of race could be interesting?
This should be Open 650 races with no rating!

Possible 2004 N.A races:

1. A 650 Open from Quebec City to Newport by Halifax
No website yet! we are thinking about it!
Spring 2004

2. Triangle PQM (+/- June 24- July 6)
http://www.grandtrianglepqm.net/
Summer 2004

3. Transat Quebec St-Malo ( July 25 2004)
http://jacquesp.www5.50megs.com/transat.html
Summer 2004 (every 4 years)

You are invited to drop a message in the "Livre d'or" section on groupe 4650 website : http://www.groupe4650nord.org
English Version available soon.

4. Bermuda 1-2 (+/- june 20-july 4)
http://www.newportyachtclub.org/bermuda1-2/
Summer 2004

5. A race in Western Canada and / or US Coast
Vancouver to California or a Transpac
When the best time and circuit?

6. Any other race and / or event?
Do you know anybody who has a Mini boat?
Ask him to give is opinion on this board. 2004 is not a Mini Transat year... let's have fun!

JM

JM,
I like the idea of Quebec-Newport via Halifax, and the Bermuda 1-2 would be a great way to introduce the class to the lobsters on the East Coast. I'll look at the other sites as well, interesting stuff.

There will be a doublehanded division in the Regatta al Sol this year. The start is in May. Currently there are three boats registered, and more on the fence.
This race runs from Pensacola, Fla, USA to Isla Mujeres, Mexico. It is 550 miles, and generally a tradewind reach once you are away from the mainland. I've run the idea by the committee, and they would be willing to allow Mini's to race.

Apparently there was a new mini delivered to Vancouver in September, and the skipper plans to do the 2004 Transpac. The website is
www.canadachallenge.com/calendar.html

There is also now a mini organization in the US. The website is
www.miniclassus.com

Any other?

I have interesting one...

Not a true offshore race... but a fun training race.

Mostly if you are from New England

mini fans this will blow your minds. Round the world on a 6.5. No joke proposed by Brian Caldwell one time youngest solo circumnavigator, and owner of netcarrier. Seb Magnin proto mini. Hew got 5th place inthe mini fastnet race last year, but was not allowed to compete in the mini race itself because of a lack of wildcards for forign entries. Any ways the mini scene in france has gotten extrememly hard to get involved in if your a forigner. This Race is designed for sailors who want to push the limits. If you have any questions please e-mail me at waterboy@hawaii.rr.com I can put you in contact with Brain
