Miami/Florida naval industry data needed

Hi everybody,

I am about to move to Miami and I am looking for naval industry dada in Miami and Florida in general.
I am naval architect with very good experience designing power and specially sailing boats.
What I really need is data about yacht design offices and boatbuilding companies in Miami area or/and whole Florida. Also just a simply person involved in this industry in Miami area could help me through this site or maybe personaly in my next trip to Florida.

I need to know how the naval industry works there in order to get a job in a yacht design company or to set my own design office which is my real goal.

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me with that.

Thanks a lot for your help !

Francis.-

Francis,

Check out the Society of Naval Architects, Southeast Section. You might be able to get there through www.sname.org.

Be aware that the new Professional Engineer licensing exam is in place, and naval architects and marine engineers who practice "engineering" are required to be licensed. Look elsewhere on this forum about PE licensing. I am the head of an Ad Hoc Committee trying to address the problem. We may be seeking to change the state law to allow certain designers, naval architects and marine engineers to practice without a license. You can email me at ewsponberg@se.rr.com to receive a free document and response form regarding this issue. The document explains everything you need to know about PE licensing.

There are many designers in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, there are also some in the Sarasota/St. Petersburg area. I am in St. Augustine, as are a few others here and in Jacksonville. Those are the primary centers of practice.

Eric

Thanks Eric

Thank you very much Eric for your help.
I have already had the information about PE licensing because a friend of mine asked you to sent it to him, and then he also sent it to me.
I will read it carefully.

Thanks again for your help,

Francis.
