There is a little program called Snag It that is good for something like this. You can do screen grabs of anything and save it as a jpeg. You can download it free for a short trial time to try it out.

I'm a bit late to this but I believe the Infidel/Ragtime lines have been published in a book on NZ Boatbuilding/Yachting. Southern Breeze might have been the name of the book? A friend scanned them and sent them to me some time back but I find they were lost in a hard-drive meltdown. I'll ask him if he still has the file. The lines included (I believe) Petersen and Farr transom extensions and perhaps a newer keel or two?

In the meantime here's Buccaneer again. As 249 mentions she was for sale in Italy recently. Spencer drawing includes offsets...nice!

Another one of my all time favorite design. Along with the William Garden Oceanus now R.I.P.
I still have the IOR rating of Ragtime, useful when I drew the lines for a smaller model at 46'.

AHA!

Is that a red boat that runs charters out of Newport (or did a few years ago)?

I was over in the States and saw what looked to be a Spencer, but was actually one of yours. Nice!

As someone has already suggested, i think Peter Tait, the guy who promotes the Firebug has the Spencer archives.
The boat John designed specifically as an IOR boat was Geoff Staggs "Whisper of Wellington" Built by Don Senior, (not to be confused with his previous "Whisper ll") and she had very rounded topsides.
Steve.

Yes, the Red boat; SightSailer. Actually the lines are closer to the "Faraman" by Amiet. A single chine with a single angle for bottom and topsides, all the way fore and aft.
I refer this sort of hull shape as an "InsTanton" for the speed at which on can build a boat.

There was a 44 or 45 foot chined ply "Ragtime Type" out of Long Beach in the mid 1970s. Named Typhoon, it was listed as designed by the owner, John Olsen. There were rumours that the plans for Ragtime were used as a basis.

They had steering problems in the windy 1977 Transpac and counted something like 118 knockdowns during the race. They had filmed a lot of the experience and showed it around the local yacht clubs.

The real challenge would be to find ALL the iterations of Ragtime, in photos or drawings.

I believe they are on stern scoop #3 or so, Rig #5, Keel #4 (or is it #5 now?), Rudder #?, etc.

There was a time when someone decided the cockpit didn't meet the draining requirement so the cockpit was decked over with plywood (Dennis Durgan era).

The deck layout has changed often as well, but the hull and deck have remained the same.

I also have my NZ friend working on the lines drawing.....we'll see.

I'm building a 3D Rhino model of the Infidel/Ragtime hull this morning, working from the plan and profile published in Sea Spray 1966. This does not seem to reconcile with the body plan posted by Gary in #4 of this thread??? The angles and shapes seem very close, but if you scale it to the right beam, the depth/freeboard is way off?? Maybe that body plan has been scaled too many times?

I also have scaled the various plans shown in this tread. They don't reconcile. But if you scale out Gary's plan posted in #4 you do get a very nice hull, well I think so. I am very interested to see what Peter Tait sends
