Spelling is Brandlmayr.

Spencer Boats Ltd. built in a variety of sizes, 32',34', 35', 42', 43', 1330 (44.4'), 53' that I know about. The yard was in Vancouver or Richmond, and in later years John Brandlmayr Ltd, was a separate design business in Vancouver. The larger boats are well regarded cruisers, with at least one of the 53's (Coho II) doing well in the Swiftsure Lightship race a while back. Brandlmayer was responsible for a number of racy boats in BC.

Spencer was started by Brandlmayr and his wife Pat in the 50's, John designing and Les McBerney building. John passed away (73?) and Pat and son Grant took over the design and management into the 80's. Hal and Margaret Roth made a number of well reported voyages and wrote a number of books on cruises in their Spencer 35' Whisper. This included crossing the north Pacific via the Aleutians and rounding cape Horn. Books by Roth include, Pathway in the Sky, Two on a Big Ocean, After 50,000 Miles, Two against Cape Horn, The Longest Race, Always a Distant Anchorage, and Chasing The Long Rainbow.

All the best, Tad
